EBFP Releases 2014 Annual Report!

August 27, 2014 marked our 5th anniversary of service to families and individuals in need of food assistance in the East Bay. We celebrate our supporters, volunteers, and community – everyone who champions our mission “to engage, educate and empower the East Bay in creating a hunger-­‐free community.” We have accomplished so much together!  Click here for complete report…Annual Report EBFP 2014

produceIn the last five years we have:

• Served over 6,500 unique individuals, during nearly 75,000 visits to EBFP!

• Distributed well over 1 million pounds of food!

While we are proud of our service numbers, we are even more excited about how we are serving our clients. Our Access Nutrition Initiative encompasses an innovative and award‑winning array of programs offering high quality, healthy foods and nutrition education. EBFP received a “Best of the Best” award at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s annual Agency Conference on May 30, 2014. This new award recognizes best practices in leadership and management, distribution, food safety, cultural competency, community partnerships and community resources. Only three of the Food Bank’s 178 member agencies received a “Best of the Best” award.

EBFP serves approximately 1,000 people each month through one or more of our comprehensive Access Nutrition programs. As a result, total food distribution was up by 19% over the previous year for a total of 306,038 pounds of food distributed in 2014. Food4Kids shows accelerated growth of 106% between 2012 and 2014. Similarly, our Fresh Food Friday program has increased by 34% in 2014 and has increased 80% in the past 2 years. We want to build on these successes and are constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of our service and programs.

We are fortunate to have a gifted and dedicated team comprised of our staff, board members and volunteers whose hard work and dedication are commendable. We are most grateful for our fabulous, astoundingly committed volunteers -­‐ with nearly 10,000 hours of service to EBFP in 2014 -­‐ and without whom it would be impossible to provide the depth and quality of services to our clients. We appreciate the many ways everyone involved with EBFP helps bring our mission to life. Together, we have provided nearly 1 million meals since we opened our doors in August 2009!

We are also grateful for the support we receive from the individuals, businesses and organizations in our community who understand that partnership is fundamental when providing assistance for over 5,000 East Bay neighbors struggling with food insecurity. We recognize that there are countless appeals for donations from numerous agencies and EBFP is committed to the philosophy of not inundating our supporters with requests. We host a single major fundraising event each year -­‐Uncorked!-­‐ that we hope our supporters will attend, sponsor and help us promote. And we make only one annual appeal for contributions that we ask you to generously consider. This important work cannot be accomplished without YOUR help.

The East Bay Food Pantry (EBFP) hosts Volunteer Appreciation Week June 2-5, 2015 to honor all EBFP volunteers. We could not accomplish the breadth and depth of the work we do in the pantry and thrift shop without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers. In 2014, 139 individuals donated 10,103 hours of volunteer labor to our agency!

EBFP presented the President’s Volunteer Service Awards to 22 dedicated recipients at a special reception on Tuesday, June 2 in the Franklin Court Community Room. Each recipient donated a minimum of 100 hours of service at EBFP in 2014 and received the official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin, a personalized certificate of achievement, and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States. The President’s Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program, encouraging U.S. citizens through presidential recognition to live a life of service. Walmart Foundation Grants EBFP $30,000!

Walmart Grant Thank YouAll of us at EBFP are grateful to the Walmart Foundation for granting us $30,000 in support of our Access Nutrition Initiative!

The Access Nutrition Initiative represents EBFP’s commitment to providing healthy and nutritious food options in our client choice food pantry. The generous support of donors and the Walmart Foundation enables the EBFP to consistently offer whole grains foods, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, high quality protein, and milk/dairy products to 5,000 East Bay residents who rely on the EBFP to supplement their food needs. The East Bay community shares in this initiative by giving monetary support, making food-specific donations, and by sharing fresh, local produce.

On Thursday, March 12th Anita Randall (Executive Director) and Karen Griffith (Programs and Operations Manager) attended a presentation assembly at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Bristol.  1st grade teacher, Claire Forand and Principal, Janet Maloney welcomed us and presented EBFP with 570 food items and a check for $570 provided by the Feinstein Foundation.

We were so impressed that what began with the 1st grade can collection was expanded to include the whole school when challenged to do so by Alan Shawn Feinstein! 570 food items is an amazing accomplishment and all of us at EBFP are so grateful to all the staff and students at OLMC school!East Bay Food II
