What to Expect

New pantry applicants are welcome every Wednesday between 10 am and 4:30 pm.

We will greet you at the door, get your name, and direct you to the office to complete an application form.  It is essential that you bring a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, RI identification card or other form of identification that includes your name and photo.  We will confirm that your current address is within our East Bay service area and learn about the people in your household.  Please bring identification for every person in your household that you will be shopping for (i.e. spouse, children).  If you have a photo ID with an address out of our service area (East Providence, Barrington, Warren, Bristol, Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport, Tiverton, Little Compton), please bring a bill or statement with your current address.  During the application process, you will also receive information about the other programs and resources we offer.

Once the paperwork is complete, you will receive a pantry client card and be able to “shop” for food (at no cost).  In addition, you will be able to browse the thrift shop and make purchases, a if you wish.

With your new client card in hand, a volunteer will orient you to the pantry and provide guidance on the amount of food you may select based on your household size.  The East Bay Food Pantry is a client choice pantry, which allows YOU to select foods your household likes.  Bringing your own bags is appreciated.  You will be able to shop in the pantry once a month, any Wednesday in the month.  Children are welcome to shop alongside their parent.

As a registered client, you will also be eligible to participate in our “Fresh Food Friday” program.  You may come and select from available fresh produce and bread every Friday at the pantry between 10:00 am and noon.  This is in addition to your monthly Wednesday regular pantry shop.

You can reach us at 401-396-9490 with your questions, any time we are open.
